After Howie Rose, during Saturday’s Mets-Rangers, reported that Davey Johnson will replace Jim Riggleman in Washington, Rose explained the irony of Johnson replacing a guy who made good on his threat to bolt if his financial demands weren’t met. When Johnson managed the Mets in the 1980s, said Rose, he had one of those deals to do a pregame show on WFAN. But, Rose continued, if the check from the station wasn’t on Johnson’s desk — if it were even one day late — Johnson would threaten to no-show. - Phil Mushnick, NYPost
