Ike Davis movin’ & groovin’

Ike Ike baby!

For us to trade a guy who has 30 home runs, we better know where the next 30 are coming from.
Sandy Alderson in regards to rumors of possibly trading Ike Davis (via metsingaround)

SNY’s Mets Weekly joins Ike Davis at his second annual “A Night with Ike Davis” charity event which raises money for pediatric cancer research.

We got here early so we got Ike Davis bobbleheads

Ike Davis‘ bone bruise is still present, and a cartilage issue has developed in his ankle. Mets GM Sandy Alderson said it’s possible Davis could need microfracture surgery and if that’s the case, he would miss the remainder of the season. He will be re-evaluated in three weeks, and a determination will be made at that time.

“When I did (start up again), I felt a real intense, burning sensation in my heel, and involuntarily just went down… . It was like I stepped on a railroad tie upside-down, like a spike.” - R.A. Dickey

(…)

Had enough gloom? Yes? Here’s some more, anyway. A doleful Collins conceded that Davis’ rehab was not progressing as hoped.

“He did his stuff inside again today,” the manager said. “This is two days in a row he did not get on the field. He thought he’d be back tomorrow, and he’s not even on the field yet.”

Oh, right, and the game itself. Well, after Dickey left, Pedro Beato, some guy, some other guy and yet another guy allowed runs. Zambrano owned the mound, and the plate - he allowed two runs in six innings, and went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. And that was about it.

Speaking of exits, it may be hard to believe this, but my understanding is that Sandy Alderson, doing all due diligence to try to revive the team from Queens, has asked almost every club what they might give him for every one of his key players. You can forget the Jose Reyes talk: the Mets and the MLB caretakers working unobtrusively with them know they must re-sign Reyes. There are intriguing answers when the Mets say “Ike Davis” and, surprisingly, “Jason Bay and Carlos Beltran.” The answers offered when they say “David Wright” are stunningly low. The rap is simple: perfect public face of a franchise. Wonderful teammate. Great guy. Productive hitter and deft fielder. Durable. And not to be relied upon in the clutch. The yield for David Wright might be less than the yield for Carlos Beltran (FYI absolutely none of this comes from Sandy Alderson or anybody in the Met front office)…

Not completely sure why modesty has become passe, but modern media dictate that the modest finish far behind the showboats, me-firsters and braggarts. A modest wide receiver, after all, is an NFL pregame pariah.

That’s why WFAN did well Saturday to include a sound bite from Mets center fielder Jason Pridie. Asked about hitting a homer the night before, after the Dodgers intentionally walked Ike Davis, he said he didn’t take it personally, not a bit:

“When you see Ike Davis up there and Jason Pridie on deck, you’ve got to pitch to Jason Pridie.”
