On this edition of SNY.tv Mets Video Diary, Rob Brender reports from New York’s Spring Training headquarters in Fla. where both Lucas Duda and Ike Davis are preparing to play first base in the 2014 season. Both first basemen had field training and live batting practice on Monday.

On the first day of official full squad workouts for the New York Mets, pitcher Matt Harvey steals the show by throwing a baseball for the first time since his Tommy John surgery. Rob Brender of SNY.tv and MetsBlog was there as Harvey played catch in front of fans, coaches, and the media.

Today, SNY.tv and MetsBlog took a break from pitchers and catchers to check on some of the New York Mets position players — David Wright, Ike Davis, Curtis Granderson, and others — who have reported to camp early.

Even the guys grooming the grounds and running out supplies lingered at the fence to try and catch a look at the pitcher the players have already nicknamed Thor.

Noah Syndergaard stepped on the mound a few minutes later and all eyes were on him. Trying desperately to tune out all the noise, the 21-year-old righthander unleashed what Terry Collins said were fastballs the pitcher was “throwing 97 (mph) today with a hook from hell.”
