Matt Cerrone asks Sandy about the media, fans and Twitter.
SNY’s Gary Cohen: I know it can’t be the overriding factor in decision making. But now that these two players (Luis Castillo and Oliver Perez), who have clearly not been popular with the fans are gone, is it almost as though you’ve cleared the slate a little bit heading into this season? Was that part of the goal here?
Mets GM Sandy Alderson: I would say that it’s part of the goal. But I would say it’s sort of a collateral benefit if you will. I think it’s true over the first several weeks of camp a lot of media attention was focused on those two players. I think to the point where some of the other more positive things going on in camp were not being highlighted or even addressed in some cases. So, in that sense yeah I think it does kinda clear the deck, allows the media to go on to something else (laughs) that they can point to negatively (laughs all around).
